Renewable energy facilities generate renewable energy credits (RECs) when they produce electricity. Purchasing these credits is a way to reduce the environmental footprint of your electricity consumption.
Mainstay Insurance Group has partnered with Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) to help AGPOM members “green” their insurance premiums. Mainstay uses a portion of their revenue to purchase Renewable Energy Credits on behalf of AGPOM member companies that are buying insurance through the AGPOM Insurance Program. Members can purchase additional credits at our discounted price which can then be used to apply for up to 6 LEED credits. This unique environmental strategy creates significant value and benefits to AGPOM membership:
All RECs available through AGPOM are "Green-e" certified. ![]()

About the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF):
BEF's mission is to support the development of renewable energy while empowering people to shrink their carbon footprint. Founded in Portland, Oregon in 1998, BEF is a national, nonprofit organization. In 2000, they helped to create the voluntary market for carbon offsets by closing the first retail REC trade deal with the Environmental Protection Agency. They also launched the first online carbon calculator in 2001. All of their Carbon Offset products are Green-e® Climate certified, the highest certification possible. With BEF Carbon Offsets, organizations and individuals are able to dedicate funds to the development of renewable energy sources like solar power and wind farms. And this in turn, helps us reduce the carbon footprints we leave behind.
